9:00 am - 4:30 pm This workshop is an advanced sandtray therapy class within the play therapy setting. It will cover how the brain changes in adolescence and how this relates to working with clients in the sand. Attendees should have previous experience or training in sandtray therapy. |
Learning Objectives and Schedule-Day 1:
- Gain knowledge of the basics of the teenage brain structure, especially in how this relates to play therapy
- Learn the developmental tasks appropriate for a teenage brain
- Review several case studies with adolescents in the sandtray and play therapy
- Understand how to best work with adolescents in the sand and play therapy from a brain science perspective
- Identify the effect of trauma on the teenage brain and how this effects sandtray therapy
- Learn five new techniques to facilitate sandtray and play therapy with adolescents

- Learn to interpret adolescent sandtrays based within brain science
- Understand how best to create collaborations when working with adolescents in sandtray and play therapy
- Practice skills to enhance your work as a facilitator of sandtray therapy, using what you have learned about how the adolescent brain works
- Create a better understanding of your own adolescent experiences using sandtray and play therapy practices

Amy Flaherty, LPE-I, RPT has been working with children as well as adults in the outpatient counseling setting for over 10 years. Amy has been a Registered Play Therapist since 2012. Since that time, she has trained others in play therapy at both large conferences and small workshops. Amy is the Founder and Director of the Southern Sandtray Institute where she works with those wishing to earn the credentials of a Registered Integrative Sandtray Therapist (RIST). Amy is a dynamic, interactive speaker, weaving real life case studies with brain informed research to provide an overall understanding of play therapy. |
